The Power of Words
We had another meet-up with our Book Club and if you haven’t noticed there’s a theme - to get yourself together from the inside out.
The book of the month is Keep It Shut and If I had to rate it? I’d Give maybe a 3.7 out of 5.
While the book once again gets you together and has you reevaluate yourself like the books before, this one was a slower read. But maybe that was the point to get you to sit with what was being said.
A big thing we discussed during the meet-up was Word Audit. Focusing on your tone and the things we say to each other and yes even to ourself.
Alot of times we will check our words when people are watching. But the word audit goes deeper that that. It’s not only what comes out of our mouth but the things we think about ourselves. Our thoughts tend to become our words.
This really got me, because in therapy we are told to give ourselves grace, be kind to ourselves.
I remember often times I would say “I just want to be lazy today” and my therapist would quickly cut into that sentence - “Like, no - you would like to rest today” you are a mom of littles, and you deserve a break. Look how one is a negative and the other is positive. One makes you want the rest and the other makes you feel guilty about needing it. The POWER of WORDs.
This part of the book really stuck with me. Made me feel like I was looking in a mirror and reminding myself to “Be Kind” with my words to myself. My tone with others - it’s a real sit-down moment.
Remembering to Pause.
Before I speak. Before I react. Before I agree to thoughts (that God didn’t give me) aren’t kind. That’s a real audit.
Not only was I outside working on the myself from the inside - but I came outside being comfy chic. I wore some super wide leg sweats, a square knit top, and oversized clutch.
Oversized with a city edge and grounded twist. Black and white stripes steal the spotlight, while olive anchors the look with effortless cool. Finished with a single olive stripe kissing the top edge, graphic + bold, yet rooted. The hinge closure makes it feel like modern architecture in your hand - structured, oversized, unforgettable.

And this wasn’t just a meet-up, but we had a crafting moment too. I was fully in my element loving every moment of it.
We created acrylic bookmarks and had some more heart to heart moments before saying “see you later, until next time”
Be reminded to speak with purpose, to speak life in every situation. I guess to some it all up. Keep it Shut was really a in detail description of Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
What are you speaking?
