Berry Sweet Celebrations: DIY, Crochet & A Little Chaos

We survived another birthday, and I gotta say—it was a berry good time (pun absolutely intended). The last of the Z girls officially celebrated her big day, and we did it up with our Delaware village, plenty of treats, and just the right amount of DIY magic.

Now let’s talk about the setup…

Balloon Garland: 1, My Sanity: 0

Who told me to DIY balloon garland like I’m some event planner?! Pinterest had me out here feeling overconfident, and I really thought I could just have a “tada” moment. Spoiler alert: just straight chaos But after a few deep breaths (and maybe a popped balloon here and there), we got it up, and it actually looked amazing.

But Can We Talk About These Crochet Strawberries?!

This was not your average party favor situation. Nope. We had handmade crochet strawberries, some turned into the cutest keychains for the kiddies’ backpacks and keys. Because what’s a birthday without a little wearable art, right? And, of course, we had to sprinkle some into the dessert table—chocolate-covered crochet strawberries included. No, you can’t eat them, but yes, they were an aesthetic masterpiece.

Then There’s The Star of The Show… Ms. Strawberry Shortcake Herself

Listen. I freehand crocheted a romper. No pattern. Just me, some yarn, and sheer determination. I used one of her onesies for size reference and prayed for the best. Did I stress myself out? Absolutely. Did baby girl end up looking like a literal crochet dream in her ruffled red and pink masterpiece? Also absolutely.

So, fellow DIYers, I have to know :

Have you ever freehanded a crochet piece and just hoped for the best?

What’s the most creative handmade party favor you’ve ever done?

Be honest—should I ever attempt another balloon garland, or just leave it to the pros next time?
